8 Killed In Pre-Election Violence In Rivers
No fewer than eight persons, including a policeman were killed yesterday before actual voting started at the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections in Rivers State.
The policeman was killed early on Saturday morning at the Rex-Lawson area of the old Port Harcourt Township even before accreditation commenced.
Though the cause of the cop’s death death was not known, but the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ahmad Muhammad who confirmed the killing said there were traces of violence before the policeman died.
Muhammad said, “The policeman killed was one of those deployed to monitor the elections today (Saturday). We see that there was evidence of violence before he was killed. His remains has been moved from to a nearby morgue and we (Police) have commenced investigation into the killing.”
The police image maker however said over 17, 000 policemen were deployed to monitor the poll across the state, with a minimum of two policemen in each polling unit.
It was gathered that one person was beheaded, while two others were shot dead in Asari-Toru local government area of the state, even as hoodlums stormed office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and reportedly threw substances suspected to by dynamite into INEC office, destroying election materials and vehicles.
Though, cause of the killings was not immediately ascertained, but it may not be unconnected with power tussle between the two main political parties in the state.
Also, eyewitnesses said there were heavy shootings on Friday night preceding the election up until about 7.00 am yesterday (Saturday) morning in Buguma, headquarters of Asari-Toru local government area, even as supporters of parties were spotted burning tyres on the main road.
The situation heightened tension in the area, while many residents stayed at home for fear of being hit by stray bullet.
Meanwhile, in Rumuomasi, a reporter with Channels Television, Grace Ekang and his reporter, were attacked and beaten by angry youths, though the details of the attack was not clear.
Also, in Bomu, Gokana local government area, a reporter with Silverbird Rhythm FM, Ofonime Okon was beaten by thugs who asked if he was sent by a particular governorship candidate in the state, even as he scampered for safety, while the vehicle (Toyota) e was travelling in was damaged.
Also, in Okpogo community, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area, a group of youths reportedly snatched ballot boxes, while two unidentified men were shot dead.
In Abua/Odual local government area, there was shooting which resulted in the loss of one live, though the police was yet to confirm, even as policemen and other security personnel were spotted along Omuku town looking for hoodlums who allegedly snatched ballot box.
It was also gathered that the residence of the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Joyba West was burnt by unknown hoodlums, while she was also attacked.
The State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari confirmed the attack on Mrs. West, saying her colleague was still hiding.
Meanwhile, Governor Chibuike Amaechi and his wife, Judith after being accredited at ward in Ubima, Ikwerre local government area described the election in the state as a charm.
Amaechi while speaking with newsmen said the Governorship and House of Assembly Election was characterized by ballot box snatching, intimidation and harassment.
This is as Amaechi has disown a text messages allegedly traced to him calling on Rivers people not to vote and for the election to be cancelled, even as he said his phone number was cloned.
The governor who spoke through the spokesman of the state government, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari in a statement said her principal had no time called on INEC to cancel the poll.
The statement reads, “The attention of the Rivers State Government has been drawn to SMS message purporting the cancellation of elections in the state by the Independent Electoral Commission.
“The state governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi hereby reaffirms his position that the elections must hold as scheduled and that all eligible voters in the state should go out and exercise their rights to elect the next Governor and members of the State House of Assembly.
“Rivers people are further reassured of the Government commitment to ensuring their safe and security at the elections.”
In Oyigbo local government area, explosion from substances suspected to be dynamite went off near a polling unit, but voters defied the development and later went to be accredited before 1.00 pm.

As #NigeriaDecides, APC, PDP In Epic Battle
The All Progressives Congress (APC) may buttress its success at the recent presidential election by winning governorship elections in many states across the country today. The polls are held in 29 states.
The Nation Reports
However, only the House of Assembly elections will be held in Ekiti, Ondo, Osun, Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo and Kogi states.
Some factors which may swing the pendulum of victory in the APC’s direction include the mass defection from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the main opposition party following the party’s electoral defeat, the effects of unresolved post-primary disputes in many PDP states, the violation of zoning or rotational principles by the PDP in some states, and other local issues.
According to political watchers, the APC is expected to win handsomely in the Northern states and the Southwest, while also giving the PDP a good fight in Rivers, Imo and Akwa Ibom states. But, the PDP is tipped to win in Cross Rivers, Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi and Delta states, which have been its strongholds since the restoration of civil rule in 1999.
In the Southwest, governorship elections will only be held in Lagos, Ogun and Oyo states. During the presidential elections, the people voted for the APC candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. The pattern of voting will be sustained in today’s election, with little or no difference.
In Lagos, voters will choose between the APC candidate, Akinwumi Ambode, and the PDP flag bearer, Jimi Agbaje. The battle will be fierce. Although the APC won the presidential poll, thePDP made an impact in four federal constituencies, which were previously the stronghold of the APC.
As in previous elections, ethnicity is likely to be a factor, although it also has its limitations. The progressives have been dominating politics in the metropolis since independence. Now that the APC has won the presidential election, many Lagosians are of the view that, for the first time, the party that will control the centre should also retain Lagos. However, unlike 2011, the ruling party may not be able to win all the House of Assembly seats.
In Ogun State, the die is cast between Governor Ibikunle Amosun of the APC and Gboyega Isiaka of the PDP. In the presidential election, the APC won the Egba and Yewa senatorial seats. The PDP won Ijebu/Remo District, the base of Isiaka. But in general, the governor enjoys a high rating because of his performance in the last four years.
Many people who worked for the PDP during the presidential election may not work for the party in today’s election.

Curfew In Adamawa Is Unlawful - APC
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has directed its members and supporters in Adamawa state to defy the curfew imposed by the state police command and come out to exercise their rights today.
In a statement issued in Lagos on Friday by its national publicity secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, and obtained by paradigm.com, the party described the curfew as unlawful and said there was no threat to security in the state to warrant the imposition of a curfew.
It said the presidential and National Assembly elections were held without incident or declaration of a curfew, and wondered what warranted the unlawful curfew declaration.
Yesterday, Mohammed said that President Goodluck Jonathan visited Lagos to coordinate ways of rigging the election in favour of Jimi Agbaje, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), candidate.
Reacting to the statement, the spokesman for the Peoples Democratic Presidential campaign organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode assured Nigerians yesterday that President Goodluck Jonathan was still committed to conducting free, fair and credible elections throughout the country today.
Meanwhile, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has released a statement criticising the warning issued by the Oba of Lagos to all Igbos in the state.

About 50 Armed Soldiers Deployed To Wike’s Residence
News just reaching us indicates that about 50 heavily armed soldiers mounted a barricade around the family residence of the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers state, Barrister Nyesom Wike as early as 6am today.
Vanguard reports that vehicles were thoroughly searched before being allowed to drive through Wipey Junction, a busy intersection close to the family residence.
At about 6.40am the soldiers were seen unloading sand bags from one of their trucks.
It was reported that efforts to take pictures were impeded by one of the soldiers who appeared to be the head of the troop.
The report also revealed that pedestrians were seen raising their hands as they walked pass the soldiers who took strategic positions with their riffles.
Meanwhile, following the tension brewing in Rivers state over the gubernatorial and house of assembly elections today, the police yesterday deployed special units to the state as part of efforts to address security concerns.

Document Reveals How PDP Plans To Rig Governorship Poll
A new document reveals a plot by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to influence the electorate, and elaborately rig Saturday’s Governorship and State House of Assembly elections in Kaduna State.
A document, entitled “The Task Before PDP and Governor Yero” obtained by Premium Times, detailed the “means, measures and ways” to be adopted by the party and its candidate, Governor Ramalan Yero, to win the election based on the voting behaviour of the electorate in the state.
It also recalled that in the previous analysis for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, almost all the projections came to pass and “therefore, the need to implement this very submissions becomes imperatives because all the findings contained herein are like gospel truth”.
Mr. Yero is the governorship candidate of the PDP in the state. He is facing a stiff challenge from the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Nasir El-Rufai.
According to the document, dated April 2, the first step to cornering illicit votes is for the handlers to avoid being detected or exposed, to avoid judicial proceedings or inimical response from agents of the opposition parties or Election Observers.
The document said since the All Progressives Congress has an advantage in Southern Kaduna, “election materials distribution should be delayed, the means of dividing of the minds of the electorate should be initiated (while) the ad-hoc staff should be reached out and compromised.”
The document also said in areas where the PDP has advantage, “efforts should be made for speedy accreditation of large number of voters, manipulation of figures should be exercised in a profound way and where possible, ballot boxes stuffing must be effectively ensured”.
It also said during collation, “Areas such as Zaria LGA, Igabi LGA, Kaduna – North LGA and Sabon – Gari LGA with Soba LGA should be collated and announced on time to allow for the assessment of their performance in relation to areas where we have advantages. It is also expedient to frustrate voters, if possible reduce their numerical advantage by either disenfranchising them or deploy other methods.”
The document suggested that effort should be made to set up a committee to immediately, identify, locate and discourage the members of PDP that are either aggrieved or not satisfied with the PDP and are ready to vote against the PDP or conduct anti- party activities during the election.
It said concerted efforts should be made to employ the services of ad-hoc staff to sabotage or compromise the performance of the Card reader.
The document warned that time is of essence and that three days before the elections, all feedback that are related to these steps, means and methodology should be analysed and appreciated for effective deployment.
“It was discovered that in Southern – Kaduna there will be tremendous voter’s apathy which will drastically reduce the numerical advantage of the PDP,” the document said.
“Efforts should be made to immediately correct this anomaly. By popular observation, it is understandable that crisis and flash points will be experienced during the gubernatorial elections which will truncate the entire process.
“Furthermore, we have started preparing for an update or a follow up to this submission immediately we finish our compilations.”
Efforts to reach officials of the Kaduna State chapter of the PDP were not successful. Its chairman, Gaiya Haruna, did not pick calls made to his mobile telephone.

Presidency Blasts APC For Accusing Jonathan Of Rigging
President Goodluck Jonathan has refuted the allegation by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that his visit to Lagos on April 9, 2015 was part of the plot to rig the gubernatorial election in the state.
Lai Muhammed, the APC’s spokesperson, had said that the president visited the nation’s commercial capital to coordinate ways of rigging the election in favour of Jimi Agbaje, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), candidate.
Premium Times reports, Jonathan’s position was detailed in his statement, which was made public by Reuben Abati, the president’s special adviser on media and public affairs.
“Lai Muhammed is wrong to say that the President came to Lagos to rig the governorship and State House of Assembly elections scheduled for Saturday, April 11. He is of course lying as usual. And rude.
“President Jonathan visited Lagos. He arrived on Thursday and left on Friday. People visited him. So what? Anytime the President is in Lagos or any part of the country, a lot of people come to pay homage to him.
“Nothing unusual happened during his last visit to Lagos. Senator Musiliu Obanikoro’s visit to the President in Lagos is not something that anybody should use to play politics. Koro is a Minister of the Federal Republic. He came to see his boss.
“Mr. Jimi Agbaje is the governorship candidate of the PDP in Lagos. I don’t see how his visit to the President, who is also the leader of his party, the PDP, should become an issue.
“Yes, Gani Adams also visited, but so did a lot of other people,” the presidency said.
Abbati stressed in the statement that Goodluck Jonathan never summoned or held meetings with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the police, polling officials or persons involved in the conduct of election.
“After the presidential election, the President immediately congratulated Gen. Buhari and the whole world has commended him for saving Nigeria.
“President Jonathan’s sportsmanship, statesmanship and leadership saved this country at that critical moment. He has demonstrated his commitment to free and fair election, the rule of law and due process. He has shown that he is a man of character, honour and integrity. Nigerians generally are proud of him.
“He has left a worthy legacy and shown a great example. That, obviously, is the narrative that Lai Muhammed and his masters want to change, so they are now cooking up meaningless tales.
“Lai Muhammed should look for another target and leave the President alone. His fatuous tale does not make any sense. I repeat: we will like to advise that the APC should just leave the President alone.
“President Jonathan was a candidate in the presidential election; he did not rig the election. Why would he want to rig tomorrow’s elections?”
The PDP had earlier accused the APC of finding excuses over its likely defeat in tomorrow’s governorship and house of assembly elections in the South-West region.
The party stated that the false alert by the APC is part of its plot to heighten tension in the zone and scare away voters from exercising their franchise.
Patience Jonathan Reacts To Amaechi's Accusations
Dame Patience Jonathan, the wife of the president, dismissed the allegation that she was pressuring the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies to manipulate the governorship election in Rivers state.
Governor Rotimi Amaechi during a stakeholders meeting on April 9, 2015, alleged that Mrs. Jonathan was in her hometown, Okrika, to supervise electoral malpractices during the elections.
Reacting to the accusations, the First Lady in a statement by the director of information in her office, Ihuoma Priscilla, said she could not be involved in act that would hinder peaceful conduct of elections in any part of the country.
The statement read:
“The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan has dismissed the allegation that she was pressurising the Independent National Electoral Commission (and the Security Agencies to rig tomorrow’s (April 11, 2015) elections in Rivers State.
“As an apostle of peace and non-violent elections, the First Lady distances herself from any alleged actions that could hinder successful elections in Nigeria, especially in her home state, Rivers State.
“She countered the insinuations that she was in her home town, Okrika for the purpose of the governorship election, pointing out that she registered in her husband, President Jonathan’s village, Otuoke in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
“The First Lady, a highly respected indigene of Okrika in Rivers State visited her home town on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 to a tumultuous welcome by her kinsmen and women who thronged the streets to welcome and appreciate her wonderful support to her husband, the President and for bringing development to Okrikaland.”
Patience Jonathan who was received to a rousing welcome by her kinsmen as she arrived her home state, Okrika, Rivers state, has always been at loggerheads with Rotimi Amaechi, who has accused her of masterminding the Okrika violence.
INEC Reveals Why Card Readers Failed In March 28 Polls
INEC Reveals Why Card Readers Failed In March 28 Polls
he Independent National Electoral Commission in Kwara State on Friday revealed why the card readers malfunctioned in the just concluded presidential and national assembly elections across the country.
Punch reports that the electoral commission in a memo sent to the supervisory and presiding polling officers by the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Emmanuel Onucheyo, identified non-removal of (nylon) films on the finger capture region of card readers as one of the causes of the problems experienced with the device in the March 28 polls.
The electoral umpire also identified the non-removal of the card reader’s battery as part of the problem, explaining that for the device to work properly, it required that it must be reconfigured before it could be used.
Onucheyo, therefore gave directives to all the electoral officers to prevent a repeat of the aforementioned challenges.
“Ensure the card readers are properly charged before handing them to supervisory/presiding officers. Ensure that the batteries are not removed for any reason whatsoever. If in any case, the batteries are removed, contact the administrators for reconfiguration. Ensure all the nylon film, covering the finger capture area, is removed before use. The SPOs should be re-educated about the card readers and their importance,” the memo read.
Meanwhile, the commission’s Public Relations Officer, Ayanda Jacob, assured that the earlier technical hitch could be avoided if the electoral officers adhere to the directives given them.
“The essence of passing the memo is to avoid the challenges we faced in the last elections. It is faster for card readers to identify registered voters if the nylon on the finger capture area is removed. Some presiding officers did not do so. Some officers also removed the devices’ batteries and by so doing, they stopped working properly until they were reconfigured. Generators have been provided to fully charge the batteries and each battery lasts for about 12 hours,” he said.
Jacob also used the medium to announce that both sensitive and non-sensitive election materials have been moved to the 16 local government areas of the state in readiness for tomorrow’s polls.
The commission’s spokesman said INEC had made proper arrangements to ensure that the Saturday’s election was more effective than the previous one.
During the just concluded presidential and national assembly elections, there were several cases of malfunctioning of card readers as it fails to read voters finger prints.
The case was a bit worse in the south-south geopolitical zone where President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife could not be accredited on time in a polling unit at his home town in Otuoke, Ogbia local government area of Bayelsa State.
Meanwhile, the INEC in Plateau state has issued a stern warning to anyone attempting to be around polling units during tomorrow’s elections without Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs).

INEC Reschedules Elections In Eight Constituencies
As many Nigerians prepare to come out en-mass on Saturday to exercise their civic duty, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rescheduled the House of Assembly elections in eight out of the 24 constituencies of Bayelsa State.
The Nation reports that the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Baritor Kpagih, on Friday said the affected constituencies will hold their polls on April 18.
Kpagih, in a statement listed the affected councils as Ekeremor Constituencies 1, 2, and 3, Kolokuma/Opokuma Constituencies 1 and 2, Sagbama Constituencies 1 and 2 and Southern Ijaw Constituency 1.
He, however, stated that the election would hold as scheduled in the other 16 constituencies on Saturday, April 11, 2015.
The REC said the polls were rescheduled because of the position of stakeholders that election should not hold ‘without full complements of the ballot papers.’
“Following the stand of the stakeholders that no election should take place in the State without full complement of ballot papers, having regard to the total PVC distributed, the State House of Assembly election slated for Saturday, the 11th of April, 2015, in Bayelsa State has been rescheduled to Saturday the 18th day of April, 2015 in the following constituencies,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, it was learnt that the political parties and their candidates insisted on the postponement because of irregularities in the ballot papers for the constituencies.
It was also gathered that the number of ballot papers sent to the constituencies was inadequate as the electoral umpire was alleged to have sent only 13, 000 ballot papers out of 27, 000 to Southern Ijaw Constituency.
It was further gathered that 5000 ballot papers were available at the headquarters of the Ekeremor Constituency 3, instead of 15, 000 ballot papers.
As part of preparation for Saturday’s governorship and house of assembly elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission in Kwara State on Friday revealed why the card readers malfunctioned in the just concluded presidential and national assembly elections across the country.
The elections is expected to be very intensive, especially as the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega has pledged he would ensure that this Saturday’s election is free, fair and violent free, adding that the era of politicians winning elections by hook or crook is over.
Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Suleiman Abba, has ordered the restriction of vehicular movement in all the thirty-six states on Saturday, April 11, 2015, as a result of the polls.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega says that results from tomorrow's general election will be announced 48 hours after the elections have been concluded. So expect results on Monday March 30. He said this during a joint press briefing with the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig. Gen. Johnson Olawumi in Abuja today March 27th.

OPC, EX-Militants in Military Uniforms to Attacks Opposition - APC
The All Progressives Congress has raised the alarm that ethnic militias and ex-militants, now wear fake police and army uniforms in order to unleash mayhem on the opposition and disrupt voting, especially in the South-West without hindrance.
In a statement in Lagos on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said Oodua Peoples Congress members were sighted at Owu -Elepe in Ikorodu Local Government Area on Friday morning, changing into fake police and army uniforms.
The party said the development confirmed the alarm earlier raised by the party that fake uniforms of security agencies were being sewn in the capital city of a South-West state.
It also said the ex-militants had been issued with fake military uniforms and deployed in some areas of Lagos, especially in the Lekki-Ajah axis, to foment trouble.
APC said the ex-militants in military uniforms were moving around in unmarked private vehicles, and their assignments were being facilitated by security agencies.
It said, ”In his national broadcast to the nation on Friday morning, President (Goodluck) Jonathan said he was under oath to protect the lives of all Nigerians and the security of the country at all times. How can he do that when
his supporters have engaged the services of ethnic militias, whom they have clothed in police and military uniforms, to engage in violence and election manipulations?
”If indeed the President means what he said, when he warned, in his broadcast, that ‘all necessary measures have been put in place to ensure that any persons, who breach the peace or cause public disorder during or after the elections are speedily apprehended and summarily dealt with according to our laws’, then he should immediately call his supporters to order and direct the security agencies to arrest those going around in fake police and military uniforms,” APC said.
Meanwhile, the party has also alerted the nation to what he called the ‘brazen actions to rig the elections in Rivers State’, where all original results sheets have been removed and photocopied to pave the way for the PDP to write fake results of the elections in the state.
It alleged similar moves to manipulate the elections and engage in massive thumb printing, starting on Friday evening, with purchased PVCs, which it added was also taking place not just in Rivers but in the South-East.
APC said the APC agent at the INEC office in the Port Harcourt, Emma Edeeyah, was arrested this morning without cause.
”These developments are worrisome and do not bode well for a free, fair, transparent and peaceful election. We are therefore calling on local and international observers to pay a close attention to these desperate measures aimed at thwarting the will of the people,” APC said.
Read Buhari's Last Message to Nigerians Before Election Day
Dear Compatriots,
Time For Nigeria To Be Great Once Again
I want to take this last opportunity, before we go to the polls on Saturday March 28 and April 11 respectively, to thank everyone who has supported our campaigns. I am humbled and grateful to have had the opportunity to meet so many of my fellow Nigerians who have helped to carry the message of change across our great country.
At no other time in our history is Nigeria in such an urgent need of strong and competent leadership. Sadly, at no other time is this leadership so sorely absent in our country. We live in a time of great opportunities and great peril. It is only a leader that understands these in equal measure that can find the rightful place for Nigeria among the great Nations of the world.
I have travelled extensively around Nigeria in the last three months. In the course of my travels, I encountered directly, what I have always believed: that a Hausa man’s desire for security is not different from the Ijaw woman’s desire to feel secured in any part of our country. An Igbo woman’s desire for her children to get quality education and find employment is not different from the Yoruba man’s dream for his children to become a useful member of our society. A wife’s desperate need for affordable and quality healthcare for her husband diagnosed with prostate cancer in Enugu is not different from a husband’s desire to save the life of his wife diagnosed with ovarian cancer in Lagos. Invariably, our fears are the same; our dreams are the same; and our problems are the same. Regardless of the language we speak, or the way we understand and worship God, what affects anyone of us, affects everyone of us.
Our economy is celebrated as the largest in Africa, yet our country is home to the continent’s highest number of people living in extreme poverty. Our youth population is larger than the combined population of many of our neighbours, yet our failure to plan and create opportunities for them is turning them to a social time bomb rather than economic catalysts. A band of ragtag terrorist group has threatened our territorial integrity, killed thousands of Nigerians, displaced our people and abducted our children. The almost 60, 000 Nigerians who have become refugees in neighbouring countries represent a budding threat to sub-regional stability.
Recent fall in international price of crude leaves us badly exposed and vulnerable. Dwindling oil revenue also means that we are going to face serious financial challenges in the months ahead. However, even as daunting as this appears, it also provides us with great opportunity to diversify our economy and finally give meaning to the widely held belief that our prosperity as a nation would not continue to depend on the resources buried under our feet, but on the productive capacity of our people.
No matter how much resources we have, if not properly utilized, it would only create a few billionaires and leave majority of our people in poverty. Under the current administration, corruption has enjoyed unprecedented prosperity and this has been at the heart of most of our government failings, including insecurity, broken infrastructure and growing inequality in our country.
My government will have a zero tolerance for corruption. I will set a personal example and run a government that truly serves the people rather than serve themselves and a privileged few. Like I have repeatedly maintained that if Nigeria does not kill corruption, corruption will kill Nigeria. We must not allow Nigeria to die. Therefore, we must do all that is necessary to root out this evil that has reduced our great country to a laughing stock of the world. We must begin to rebuild the social fabrics of our society and teach a different experience to our youth in the values of hard work, discipline, integrity and service.
The change that I seek therefore; is a change from the current regime of mindless of corruption and profligacy; a change from fear and insecurity to peace and stability; a change from religious and ethnic divisiveness to unity, equity and justice. This is the change that my party stands for. This is the change that I am committed to bringing about as President. Give me the chance to lead you in rebuilding a Nigeria that all of us can be proud of once again.
As we come out to vote on Saturday, I appeal to all Nigerians to shun violence in whatever form. It is the right of every adult Nigerian to vote and expect that their votes would count in a free, fair and credible election. However, we also have a responsibility to respect the choice of others and grant them the same treatment that we expect.
I also want to call on all our men and women in uniform, the Judiciary, and all others who have constitutional responsibility to safeguard our democracy, to remember that their responsibility is primarily to Nigerians and the survival of Nigeria. They must therefore not allow anyone to use them to subvert the will of the Nigerian people. I believe that their dreams and aspirations are not different from those of other Nigerians.
I have no doubt that with God being on our side; together we can make our country great once again.
Gen. Muhammadu BUHARI, GCFR
BREAKING NEWS: Gbemi Saraki dumps Jonathan for Buhari
Barely 24 hours to the presidential election, a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State and former Senator, Gbemisola Saraki has declared support for the candidacy of All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd).
There have been widespread speculations about her defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Senator Gbemisola who is the first daughter of Second Republic Senate Leader, Late Dr Olusola Saraki was quoted to have ordered thousands of her supporters to go out with brooms on Saturday to sweep Kwara State and Nigeria clean.
The meeting was held on Friday at her residence in Ilorin.
Her open declaration of support for the APC and its candidates would definitely boost the chances of the party in Kwara State.
Senator Gbemisola’s open support for the APC has heightened worries within the PDP fold that President Goodluck Jonathan may fail to gather the minimum of 25% of the total votes cast in Kwara State as earlier projected by the party.
